Fall The Warehouse Michael Fitzalan

Arriving at the Warehouse

When the truck finally stopped, I was already beginning to feel more nauseous. I was becoming overwhelmed by the length of my incarceration. The smell of rubber and the charcoal made me dizzy, I could hardly breathe. Gas masks – or this one at least – were not designed to be worn for long periods of time. Anxiety was building and suppressing my feelings was becoming increasingly difficult.

Council Corruption Over the Years

I had seen the same in a borough where I had first lived, when I had a summer job in London. The council wanted to offload a school due to a temporary dip in the population. A friend’s father had put in a sealed bid, supported by a Montessori school and two other private schools, a nursery and a preparatory school that had all outgrown their premises.
Their bid was a very generous offer. They lost the building in the sealed bid and surprise, surprise the building was awarded to a family company that developed similar buildings in the borough and the owners just happened to be cousins of several of the councillors.
Britain was meant to be less corrupt than other countries but sadly it was not.
Whatever the merits of turning a public building, that had been built for educational use, into private dwellings was not a subject I was willing to discuss any further.
I had complained to people at the time, but they were not interested so I decided to clam up like an old, off oyster.

Perish the thought

She was at her wits end, that’s what she thought, she liked comfortable cliches; they had a regular rhythm and the helped her feel safe. They were like a mother’s hug she decided, always there when you needed them, reliable and solid unlike her extremely annoying husband.
